Jean-Luc Godard directs this drama starring Macha Meril as Charlotte, a young, middle-class, married woman caught in a menage a trois with her pilot husband Pierre (Philippe Leroy) and actor Robert (Bernard Noel). She has promised Robert that she will divorce her husband, but an unplanned pregnancy makes her question her decision. The 'fragments' of the film's subtitle are a series of episodic vignettes running through the film depicting the cultural signifiers that surround Charlotte as she tries to elicit meaning from her life: billboards, magazines, music, literature and various early-1960s consumer durables.
