Jules and Jim meet and become friends in Paris just before World War 1 begins, and they soon meet the charming but unpredictable Catherine. Before long the relationships strengthen into an 'amicable' love triangle, but Catherine marries Jules.

Time passes and the trio meet again in Germany, and this time Catherine begins to fall for Jim. As the years continue to pass, both men love the same woman, but neither can fully understand her motives, insecurities and ultimately her despair. Moreover the tale is about three people in love who maintain their friendship throughout the fluidity of the relationship.
